Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius softball team opened up their AMCC slate with a doubleheader split against visiting Hilbert College on Sunday afternoon. The Mounties fell in game one by a 6-3 margin before rebounding to earn a 8-4 victory in game two against the Hawks.
The Mounties led 1-0 in game one through three innings before the Hawks exploded for four run in the top of the fourth inning. Mount Aloysius rallied in the sixth as
Alexandria Teeter doubled home
Courtney Link followed by a
Hannah Ruby sacrifice fly that scored Teeter to make it a 4-3 ballgame. The visitors added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning, and the Mounties were retired in order in their final at-bat.
Link scored two runs and
Karly Klein added two hits for the Mounties in game one. Ruby was handed the loss after allowing six hits and four earned runs in six innings on the rubber.
In game two, the Mounties trailed 1-0 before notching five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Leanne Cardoso-Bastos drew a walk with the bases loaded to tie the game at 1-1. Link then singled home
Kate Little, and Ruby followed with an RBI single to score Cardoso-Bastos to make it 4-1 in favor of the Mounties.
Caroline Showalter struck for another RBI single to cap the scoring in the inning.
Hilbert cut the gap to 5-4 in the top of the sixth, but Mount Aloysius responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Teeter lined a double in the gap to score Link, and came around on an error to score to make it 7-4. Little then recorded an RBI groundout that brought in
Grace Grata to increase the Mountie lead to 8-4. The home side sealed the victory with a scoreless seventh inning.
Teeter went 2-for-4 in game two with a triple, double and two runs scored. Link went 3-for-4 at the plate, and
Kateryna Bittner reached base three times with two hits and a walk while adding a run.
Morgan Rackish earned the victory in game two as she threw six innings and allowed only five hits and one earned run.
The Mounties are now 9-7 overall and will return to the field on Tuesday with an AMCC doubleheader at home against Pitt-Greensburg. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
