Softball Rallies for Game Two Victory in Split with Redhawks

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Pittsburgh, PA - After dropping a close contest by a score of 4-3 in game one, the Mount Aloysius softball team rallied for a thrilling 3-2 victory in game two of a conference doubleheader with host La Roche on Wednesday afternoon.

Mount Aloysius scored one run in the opening inning of the ballgame in game one when Hannah Ruby singled home Alexandria Teeter. However, the Redhawks responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. The Mounties scored again in the second inning after Leanne Cardoso-Bastos came home on a sacrifice fly from Morgan Sheeder. La Roche expanded their lead to 4-2 in the third inning before the Mounties cut the deficit to one run in the fifth inning after Courtney Link scored following a Redhawk error. The Mounties managed just one hit in their final two at-bats as La Roche nailed down the victory.

Kateryna Bittner went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Mounties in game one, and Hannah Ruby ended the game going 2-for-4. Morgan Rackish was handed the loss after allowing seven hits and four earned runs in six innings on the rubber.

In game two, Mount Aloysius had trouble getting anything going offensively and trailed 2-0 heading into their final at-bat of the game. With one out, Cardoso-Bastos and Little hit back-to-back singles and Bittner walked to load the bases. After a Mountie strikeout put the visitors down to their last out, Courtney Link reached base on a La Roche error that scored Cardoso-Bastos to make it 2-1. Teeter then delivered with a single to center field that drove in Little and Bittner to hand the Mounties a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Ruby shut the door on the Redhawks in their final at-bat to secure the win for the Mounties.

Teeter went 2-for-4 in game two to pace the Mounties.

The Mounties now sit at 16-18 overall and 6-10 in conference play. They will host Pitt-Bradford for a doubleheader on Sunday in the regular season finale for both teams. The Mounties will need to win both games to guarantee a conference playoff berth.
