Mounties Suffer First Loss of Season

Box Score
Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2017 season as the Mounties were defeated by a final score of 2-0 against visiting Juniata College on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

The Mountie defense held strong until Juniata earned its first corner kick opportunity of the game in the 22nd minute and scored off of a header. The Mounties countered with opportunities from Brianna Byler and Sam Torrenti but were unable to hit the scoreboard as the Eagles took a 1-0 advantage into halftime.

Mount Aloysius had trouble breaking down the Juniata defense in the second half despite improved play in possession. Mount Aloysius was able to record four shots in the second half, but pushed numbers forward in the final 15 minutes and Juniata scored off of a counterattack to take a 2-0 lead.

Byler led the Mounties with three shots while Torrenti registered two shots. Leanne Cardoso-Bastos notched 11 saves in a strong effort for the Mountie keeper.

The Mounties fall to 3-1-1 overall and will return to the field on Friday evening with a 6 p.m. match at Waynesburg.
