Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius College women's soccer team emerged victorious in the second game of their 2017 season, defeating SUNY Westbury by a final score of 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in their home opener.
The Mounties got off to a strong start in Saturday's contest with two goals within the first 12 minutes of action.
Cheyenne Kuncher got the Mounties on the scoreboard with a goal at the 10-minute mark off of a feed from midfielder
Sam Torrenti. Less than two minutes later,
Katie Mirance received a through ball from
Grace Alsop and beat the keeper to the near post to hand Mount Aloysius a 2-0 advantage.
The Mounties concluded their scoring in the 49th minute of play when
Summer Schell volleyed home a corner kick off of the foot of Torrenti. Mount Aloysius then limited Westbury to two total shots on their way to the victory.
Leanne Cardoso-Bastos made two saves to record her second consecutive shutout. Offensively, the Mounties notched 25 shots led by four shots apiece from Torrenti and Kuncher.
With the victory, the Mounties improve to 1-0-1 and will return to the field of play on September 6th when they take on Saint Vincent College on the road for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
