Frederick, MD - The Mount Aloysius College women's soccer team played to a scoreless 0-0 draw with host Hood College in the season opener for both teams on Friday evening.
The game was an up-and-down affair but neither side could find the final goal. The Mounties recorded 11 shots, including six on goal, while the Blazers had 12 shots and put seven on frame. Mount Aloysius had a couple early opportunities through the play of striker
Cheyenne Kuncher, who put pressure on the Hood backline and had an early shot stopped after a quick run through the box. Later in the opening half,
Skylar Taylor got through to goal and her first shot was stopped. The rebound fell to her foot but her volley sailed just over the crossbar.
In the second half of play, Mount Aloysius saw its best chance come after
Leah Frerichs sent in a long pass across the box to
Sam Torrenti. Torrenti took a touch then blasted a shot that hit off the outside of the Hood post.
Mount Aloysius had a 8-0 advantage in corner kick opportunties for the game.
Leanne Cardoso-Bastos had a strong opener with seven saves for the Mounties.
The Mounties return to the field tomorrow for their home opener at 3:30 p.m. against SUNY Old Westbury.
