Women's Soccer Edged by Behrend in Title Game

Box Score
Erie, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team saw its historic season come to an end with a 1-0 defeat to host Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon in the AMCC Championship Game.

The Mounties played one of its best games of the season defensively, holding the high-powered Lions attack to only two shots on goal. The first half was a defensive battle in which the two teams each registered just one shot apiece in the game's first 39 minutes. The Mounties had a great chance halfway through the period when Kourtney Walls got behind the Behrend defense on a ball played into the Lion box, but her header glanced just short of goal and was cleared away.

In the second half, neither side recorded a shot until Behrend scored in the 65th minute when a shot from outside the box got past Mountie keeper Lauren Davey to give the home side a 1-0 advantage. Mount Aloysius had a great opportunity to equalize in the 76th minute when Walls found a through ball on the right side of the box, but her shot was saved by the Behrend keeper.

"Extremely proud of our team as they left everything they had on the field today. It was the best defensive performance I've seen from this group," Head Coach Matt Davis said. "We came up just short, and it stings. But I couldn't be prouder of how we performed against a very good Behrend team."

Summer Schell, Jordan Gebhart and Walls were named to the AMCC All-Tournament team during the awards ceremony following the match.

The Mounties conclude their best season in program history with a 14-3-2 overall record along with the program's first appearance in the AMCC Championship Game.
