Greenville, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's bowling team competed in the second AMCC Round Robin event of the season over the weekend and came away with the AMCC regular season title for the third consecutive year.
The final round robin of the regular season took place on February 3rd in Greenville PA, hosted by Thiel College. The Lady Mounties started the day off with a solid win over Thiel 951-648. Match 2 was against New Jersey City and the Mounties won 862-776. Match 3 was a close battle against a strong Pitt Bradford team and the decision came down to the final frame with the Mounties stepping up for the victory 825-814. The fourth match of the day was against Medaille. The Mounties mounted a 6 through 10 frame charge after falling behind by nearly 100 pins through the first 5 frames. The rally came a bit late and the Lady Mounties lost to Medaille 951-900. The final match of the day was a bye match and all five freshmen got into the lineup to show their strength, as they shot an impressive 725 on what had become a very tough lane condition.
"As we had a 108 pin advantage going into the day against 2nd place Medaille based on the first AMCC round robin, the 51 pin loss today was not enough to deprive us of a well deserved third regular season title. We have a lot of work to do before heading to Buffalo for the AMCC Championship, but we are not afraid of hard work and we will be ready," Head Coach
Barbara Jones said.
High averages on the day were
Rayissa Amon with a 199 for four games and
Jessica Bello with a 182. Freshmen
Brooke Edelman and
Michelle Bello rolled impressive 191 and 173 averages respectively.
The women's bowling team heads to Kutztown on February 9th for the three-day Golden Bear Classic.
