North Myrtle Beach, SC - The Mount Aloysius Softball team lost both matchups on their opening day, losing 8-6 to Penn College of Technology and 3-0 to Eureka College.
In their first outdoor action of the season, the Mounties fell behind early as the Wildcats were able to push across four runs in the second frame.
Kate Little sparked the Mounties in the 3rd inning, singling to right field, then hustling all the way to third after an error in right field. The Mounties were able to continue the comeback in the top of the 4th as the Mounties took advantage of three walks.
Courtney Link knocked in one run with a single up the middle, and
Little capped off the rally with a two-out, two-RBI single. Freshmen
Abby Reitz and
Kara Pisczek also chipped in their first hits in Mountie uniforms in the loss.
Emily Wawroski picked up the hard luck loss as the final three runs for Penn College were all aided by Mount Aloysius fielding errors.
Game 2 saw
Hannah Ruby take the circle against Eureka College. Ruby spread out six hits over 5 and 1/3 innings, allowing all three runs of the game on an error in the 3rd inning.
Nina Shatzer pitched the remaining inning and two thirds, retiring all five batters she faced.Â
Offensively the Mounties were not able to string hits together as they had in their first game. Link finished with two singles, and three more freshmen recorded their first Mountie hits as
Kayla Hopkins and
Lydia DeFazio singled and
Riley Keefer drilled a double to right field.
The Lady Mounties will play three games on Monday, facing The Sage College at 9:30, King's College at 11:30 and Mary Baldwin University at 1:30.
