North Myrtle Beach, SC - Mount Aloysius Softball team had a busy day Monday as they played three games in a row in their second day of competition at the Fastpitch Dreams Collegiate Softball Spring Training.
Their first game saw the Mounties take on The Sage Colleges, and they got off to a quick start on their way to a 5-4 victory. They plated five runs in the first frame of the day on four hits.
Hannah Ruby got the Mounties on the board, doubling on a line drive to left, scoring two.
Lydia DeFazio added an RBI single, and starting pitcher
Nina Shatzer helped her own cause knocking in one and having a second score after an error in left field.
Shatzer scattered three hits over her four innings of shutout ball to pick up the first win of the season for the Mounties.
Morgan Rackish picked up the save with a perfect 7th inning after the Sage cut the lead to one in the 6th.
The second game saw an excellent, yet unsuccessful effort from freshman
Kara Pisczek in the circle, as the Mounties fell to King's College by a final score of 2-1.
Pisczek pitched all six innings, striking out 10 while allowing three hits and two unearned runs.Â
Offensively
Ruby singled in her second run of the day to give Mount Aloysius a 1-0 in the 4th.
Riley Keefer also chipped in with two singles at the plate in the loss.Â
The third game of the day was a back-and-forth affair with the Mounties coming out on top scoring seven runs in the last two innings against Mary Baldwin University to take a 13-9 victory.
Mount Aloysius pounded out 18 hits in the game, and did an overall good job putting the ball in play as they struck out just three times in the game while forcing six errors out of the Fighting Squirrels. Designated Hitter
Kate Little led the charge, going 5 for 5 while knocking in three runs and scoring two of her own.
Kayla Hopkins (3-for-5, three RBIs) and slap hitting lefty
Leanne Cardoso-Bastos (3-for-4, two RBIs, three Runs Scored) also chipped in big games at the plate.
Pisczek and
Ruby were late game heroes for the Mounties.
Pisczek had the go ahead hit in the 7th, singling in
Cardoso-Bastos.
Ruby picked up the win, pitching the final 3 and 1/3 innings while giving up two runs on three hits and one walk.
The Softball team will return to the field tomorrow, March 6th, as they will take on Penn State Beaver at 9:30 AM and Wentworth Institute of Technology at 11:30 AM.
