North Myrtle Beach, SC - The Mount Aloysius softball team added two wins on Tuesday, defeating Penn State Beaver 7-0 and Wentworth Institute of Technology 15-1, in 5 innings.
Game 1 saw
Morgan Rackish in mid-season form. The senior shut down Penn State Beaver, throwing a complete game shutout. Rackish allowed five hits, and struck out six Lions while not giving out any free passes. The performance marked the 25th complete game and fifth shutout of Rackish's career.
The Mounties opened up the scoring in the second inning. After
Lydia DeFazio scored on an error, freshman
Kara Pisczek hit a hard line drive down the right field line. The ball skipped past the right fielder and Pisczek raced around the bases for an inside the park home run, marking the first of her career. Pisczek and
Kayla Hopkins led the Mounties with two hits each, and Hopkins circled the bases after one of her singles went through the legs of an outfielder rolling to the wall.
Caroline Showalter also knocked in two runs, one coming on a sacrifice fly, and the other on a single to right field.
In game two
Emily Wawroski took the circle for the Mounties. In the top half of the first, Wentworth was able to scrape across an unearned run without the help of a hit. After this Wawroski didn't look back. She gave up two hits in the game, both coming in the first two innings, and struck out six in just five innings of work, as the game ended by the mercy rule after the top of the fifth.
The Mounties continued their hot hitting once they got to the plate. The Mounties scored in each of their at bats tallying two runs in the first, three runs in both the second and third frames, and seven in the fourth.
Courtney Link led the team offensively, finishing 3-for-3 with three runs scored, three runs batted in and a stolen base. Hopkins, Wawroski and
Leanne Cardoso-Bastos also had multi-hit games.
The Mounties finish the day 4-3 and will play three games tomorrow. They will take on Eastern Mennonite University at 9:30 AM, Brevard College at 11:30 and Methodist University at 3:30.
