Bradford, PA - The Mount Aloysius Softball team split their doubleheader Saturday at Pitt-Bradford, winning the first game 2-0 and losing the second 12-4.
Hannah Ruby put in a dominating performance for the Mounties from inside the circle. Ruby tossed a complete game one-hitter, with the lone hit being a single in the 2nd inning. Hannah allowed two walks in the game, and only allowed a runner to reach second base once. She struck out two batters total, but used her infielders well, getting 14 outs on grounders. She is now 3-1 on the year and leads the Mounties in innings pitched.
The Mounties only two runs of the game came early as freshman
Kayla Hopkins drove a line drive deep over the left field fence. The two-run blast was Hopkins first collegiate home run, and provided the Mounties all the runs they needed. Ruby also had a good game at the plate, as she was the only Mountie to have a multi-hit game and scored the first run on Hopkins blast following being hit by a pitch.
The Mounties pitching struggled in game 2.
Emily Wawroski started and after a scoreless first, ran into trouble with her control walking four batters and hitting one while recording one out in the second inning.
Kara Pisczek entered the game in relief, but the Pitt-Bradford offense kept rolling, totaling six runs in the inning.
Offensively, Mount Aloysius jumped out to an early lead in the second, as
Karly Klein stole second, and Pisczek scampered home as the catchers throw got away. This was followed by a
Caroline Showalter single to right center, to give the Mounties a two run lead. After the six-run bottom of the 2nd for Pitt-Bradford, the Mounties were able to cut the lead in half in the 4th.
Riley Keefer singled through the left side of the infield to score Showalter, and
Courtney Link followed that up with an RBI double to left center. Pitt-Bradford opened up the score late in the game, scoring one run in the 5th and five runs in the 6th.Â
The Mounties were able to knock out 12 hits in game two, with Klein leading the way with three hits. Showalter, Keefer and Link also recorded multi-hit games for the Mounties.Â
With the split, the Mounties record sits at 10-6, 3-1 in conference play. Their game at D'Youville scheduled for Sunday has already been postponed due to freezing rain in the Buffalo area. The Mounties are now scheduled to be back in action Tuesday at conference rival Penn State Altoona. They are also set to host Waynesburg University in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday.
