Altoona, PA - The Mount Aloysius Softball team was swept in their AMCC doubleheader against local rival Penn State-Altoona on Wednesday afternoon. The Mounties dropped game one by a final score of 4-2 and game two by a 1-0 final scoreline.
Defensive errors would plague the Mounties in Game 1 as all but one of Penn State Altoona's runs would be marked as unearned.
Nina Shatzer pitched for the Mounties, as she allowed four runs (1 earned) over five innings on nine hits and one walk. Senior
Morgan Rackish came in to pitch the final inning, allowing two runners to get into scoring position, but was able to get the final outs of the inning to keep the Mounties deficit at 2.Â
The Mounties were fairly quiet offensively through the first five innings, collecting three hits over the frames. The Mounties were able to break through in the 6th as
Emily Wawroski hit a two-out double into the right center gap. She was then knocked home on a
Lydia DeFazio single into centerfield. The Mounties started a final comeback in the 7th when shortstop
Abby Reitz drew a one-out walk, and was then pushed around the bases on a
Courtney Link RBI double. The final two batters were unable to knock in the tying runs and the Mounties fell 4-2.
Game 2 saw Mount Aloysius in yet another pitchers duel with
Hannah Ruby in the circle. Ruby took the loss for the Mounties, as she pitched all six innings, allowing the lone run of the game to score in the bottom of the 6th. The Mounties struggled at the plate, amassing three hits in the game. Link and DeFazio recorded singles and
Karly Klein hit a double.
Mount Aloysius falls to 10-8 on the season and 3-3 in AMCC play. They are currently scheduled to host Waynesburg University on Thursday, and Penn State Behrend on Saturday.
