Cresson, Pa - The Mount Aloysius softball team lost a pair of games on Saturday to conference opponent Penn State-Behrend, with both games finishing with a final score of 6-1.
Morgan Rackish took the circle in game one for the Mounties. Rackish allowed two unearned runs on four hits through the first five innings, but saw a 2-out rally in the 6th by Behrend push the deficit to six runs. The Mounties were able to claw back a run in their half of the 6th as
Courtney Link hit a one-out double down the left field line and scored two batters later on an
Emily Wawroski single through the left side of the infield. Wawroski and Link both recorded multi-hit games for the Mounties.
Sophomore
Nina Shatzer started game two, and like Rackish scrambled through the first four innings allowing two unearned runsin the second inning. The Mounties cut the lead in half in the 4th inning when
Hannah Ruby hit a long sacrifice fly to centerfield to score
Kayla Hopkins, who had led off the inning with a double to the right center gap.Â
Shatzer was unable to shut down Behrend in the next inning as she allowed two solo home runs to left field. Shatzer finished with five innings pitched while allowing two earned runs and two unearned runs.
Hannah Ruby entered the game to pitch the final two innings, allowing one earned and one unearned run.
In between games, the Mounties recognized their three seniors on this years squad,
Morgan Rackish,
Karly Klein and
Hannah Simpson.
The defeats bring the Mounties to record to 10-10 on the year and they fall to 3-5 in AMCC play. They have a big week ahead of them as they are scheduled to play six conference games and two non-conference games. They will host LaRoche College on Wednesday, then travel to non-conference foe Juniata College on Thursday. The Mounties will then travel to Buffalo, NY over the weekend, where they will face AMCC opponents Hilbert College and Medaille College.
