South Bend, IN - The Mount Aloysius Softball team completed its season on Saturday with a loss in NCAA Regional play to eventual regional champion Case Western Reserve, by a score of 7-0.
The Mounties were unable to score a run in the game, but were able to collect six hits on the day. The Mounties came close to scoring in the third as
Kara Pisczek and
Courtney Link both dropped down back-to-back bunt singles with one out. After a sacrifice, the Mounties were unable to get a two-out hit to end the threat. The Mounties would get a few runners into scoring position later in the game, but again were not able to collect a two-out hit to drive in a run. Pisczek was the only Mountie batter to collect multiple hits on the day.
Hannah Ruby started the game for the Mounties. After a 1-2-3 first inning, Ruby allowed four unearned runs in the second putting the Mounties behind early. She was replaced in the circle by Pisczek who pitched two innings and gave up three earned runs. Senior
Morgan Rackish finished her Mountie career with a strong finish to the game. She pitched the final three innings, allowing no hits and two walks.
After regional play was completed on Sunday, Ruby was named to the All-Tournament team. Ruby Pitched seven innings over the two games, allowing three earned runs over the span. She also was a force at the plate as she batted. .500 over the two games.
The Mounties finish their historical season with a record of 21-15, and the program's first AMCC Championship and appearance in the NCAA tournament. While the graduating seniors will be missed, the future looks bright for the Mounties as they look to return most of their starting players as well as 20 of their 21 wins in the circle.
