Five Mounties Named All-Conference, Gutmann Coach of the Year

Cresson, PA - After a magical run to a AMCC Conference Championship and a berth in the NCAA tournament, the Mount Aloysius softball team placed five players on the 2018 All-Conference Team, and Head Coach Andie Gutmann has been named 2018 AMCC Coach of the Year. Outfielder Courtney Link was named to the first team, while pitcher Hannah Ruby, catcher Lydia DeFazio and designated player Emily Wawroski were 2nd team selections, and third baseman Kate Little was on the third team.

In her first season at the helm, Gutmann led the Mounties to a 21-15 record. The Mounties were able to secure the #3 seed in the AMCC Tournament. They went on to win all four of their games in the tournament to bring the AMCC Conference Championship home to Cresson, and the conferences automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. The championship and tournament appearance were the first in program history.

Centerfielder Courtney Link was a First Team All-Conference selection. Link batted .433 for the year, good for 4th in the conference. In AMCC play she hit .500 while scoring 23 of her 32 runs on the year. Her 33 hits and 23 runs in conference play both led the league. Link also played a stellar center field, covering as much territory in the outfield as anyone in the league. She also chipped in 3 outfield assists. Link was named to the All Tournament Team for her performance in the conference tournament.

Second Team selection Hannah Ruby made the team as a pitcher. Ruby amassed an 11-5 record while maintaining a 2.10 era over 94.1 Innings pitched. Her 11 wins were 4th in the conference, despite appearing in far fewer games than those above her. Ruby dominated conference opponents as she picked up 7 conference wins for an era of 1.66. Ruby did well at the plate as well, batting .337 with 2 home runs and 17 RBIs. Ruby was also named to the All-Tournament team for both the Conference Championship and NCAA Regional appearances.

Lydia DeFazio was also a Second Yeam selection as a catcher. DeFazio split time between catcher and first base in her freshman campaign. For the year she hit .296. She also had a strong season defensively committing only 4 errors and allowing 5 passed balls. She was named to the All-Tournament team for the AMCC Conference Tournament.

Emily Wawroski was the final selection to the Second Team. Wawroski batted .329 on the year, but excelled in conference play. She hit .389 against AMCC opponents, including 21 of her 28 hits on the season. She racked up 5 doubles and 1 home run as well.

Third baseman Kate Little was the final player to earn All-Conference honors as she was named to the Third team. Kate hit .313 for the year. She led the Mounties with 7 doubles in conference play. She also played well defensively at the hot corner, committing only 5 errors in 18 conference games to end the season.
