Buffalo, NY - The Mount Aloysius softball team won its first two games of the double elimination AMCC tournament. They used strong performances in the pitching circle to beat #6 seeded Hilbert College 2-0 and #2 seeded Medaille College 1-0.
Hannah Ruby pitched the first game for the Mounties and put in another strong performance. She threw her second complete game shutout of the season, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out five while picking up her 9th win of the season. Both Mountie runs came in the 4th inning. After two errors to start the inning,
Karly Klein hit a two-out double to break the ice.
Brianna Benscoter legged out an infield single to knock in the second run a batter later.
Game two saw Ruby start again for the Mounties. Ruby lasted four innings allowing five hits while walking one. The Mountie offense was able to scratch across a run in the top of the 5th on a two-out single by
Courtney Link to score Benscoter.
Kara Pisczek entered the game following the run. She was able to wriggle out of trouble in the 5th when the Mountie defense tagged out two Medaille players in a rundown to end the inning. Pisczek finished the final three innings to pick up her first save of the season and preserved Ruby's 2nd win of the day and 10th of the season.
The wins moved the Mounties record to 19-13, and more importantly moved them further up the winners bracket in the conference tournament. They are scheduled to play the winner of Penn State-Behrend and Penn State-Altoona at 3:00 PM Saturday to earn a spot in the tournament's final pairing.
