Beaver Falls, PA- The Mount Aloysius Women's Soccer team used a last minute free kick goal to defeat Geneva College to move to 3-0 on the season.
Mount Aloysius fell behind 21 minutes into the match when Geneva's Erin Houser put one past keeper
Lauren Davey to put Geneva ahead. The Mounties were able to even the match before half-time. In the 34th
Leah Frerichs played a long ball from her spot at centerback which found a streaking
Cheyenne Kuncher behind the defense. Kuncher collected the long ball and slid a low shot to the left corner of the goal. to tie the game at 1. The goal was the senior's 1st of the year and 19th of her career at Mount Aloysius.
Despite 16 shots between the two teams in the second half, the game remained tied at 1 heading into its last minutes. Mount Aloysius won a free kick about 35 yards from the goal in the middle of the pitch. Frerichs came up big again as she hit a perfectly placed shot into the top left corner of the goal to give the Mounties a 2-1 victory. The game winning goal was also the first of Frerich's career.
Lauren Davey finished with 6 saves, picking up her third victory of the year.
After a stretch in which they played 3 games in 4 days, the Mounties (3-0) will have a bit of a break before their next contest. They will travel to Thiel College on Saturday September 8th, and then host Saint Vincent College on Sunday the 9th.
