Mountie Men's Basketball to Play for Program's First Trip to Conference Final

Cresson, PA- With their 15 point win Wednesday Night over D'Youville College, the Mount Aloysius Men's Basketball team moved into the AMCC Tournament's final four for the first time in program history. Their reward for the victory is a date with #1 seed and tournament final four host LaRoche College in the next round. 

The Mounties advanced through the strength of their junior guards Julian Stover and Nate Christian. In the first round Christian score 20 points while Stover added 19. Freshman Carlos Palacio recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. The full report for the first playoff game can be found here

The Redhawks completed the conference's first undefeated regular season to earn the top spot in the tournament. They are led by a trio of double digit scorers, all who fill a different role for the team. Zach Gould is a senior guard who does most of his damage from outside the three point arc. He leads the the AMCC in three pointers made (83) and three point percentage (47.7) and is second in points per game (15.5). Sophomore Tyler Frederick is the LaRoche inside presence. He has averaged a double-double this season, scoring 14.4 points per game and grabbing 10.2 rebounds per contest. Senior Ray Quan Phifer was named the Pre-season AMCC Player of the Year, he is a dual threat player on offense that can score from the outside and attacking the rim. He averaged 12 points per game this season. Phifer is also a strong on ball defender, using his length to deter his opponents and to force turn overs, recording just under 2 steals per game. 

In their head to head matchups, the Mounties were able to stay close to LaRoche. both contests saw the teams tied or separated by just 1 point in the final 5 minutes. Full game recaps can be found here for the game at LaRoche, and here for the game at home

Tip off for the semi-final will be 5:00 PM at LaRoche's Kerr Fitness Center. The winner will take on the winner of Penn State Behrend and Medaille, which will tip off after the completion of the first game.
