Erie, PA - The Mount Aloysius Men's Tennis team fell short in their bid for the program's first AMCC Tournament Championship as they fell to top seeded Franciscan 5-2.
The Mounties took 1 of 3 matches in doubles play to start the final.
Matt Blose (Punxsutawney, PA/Punxsutawney) and
Nick Goldyn (Sidman, PA/Forest Hills) breezed to an 8-2 win at the top spot to start things off. The second pairing of
Cole Kazmierczyk (Johnstown, PA/Richland) and
Dylan Matta (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) nearly took their match as they pushed their opponents to the brink, but lost the match 6-8. The loss would be decisive as it sent the game into singles play with Franciscan only needing 3 of 6 victories to clinch the Championship.
Blose was able to win his match at the top spot easily by a score of 6-2, 6-0 to even the game at 2. Franciscan was able to take the championship as it breezed to wins at match numbers 4, 5 and 6 to reach the clinching score of 5 points. The doubles loss at #2 proved important as when the match ended Mounties Kazmierczyk and Goldyn had leads at match numbers 2 and 3.
Despite the disappointing finish, it was a historic season for Mountie Tennis as they reached the championship match for the first time in program history. They finish their season at 10-5.
