Mounties Split with Mavericks, Improve to 6-4 in AMCC

CRESSON, Pa. -- On Saturday, the Mount Aloysius Softball team played host to Medaille, in an AMCC doubleheader. The Mounties came in, looking to improve their standing in the AMCC. Medaille (4-6, 4-6 AMCC) won Game One 10-2, but Mount Aloysius (8-5-1, 6-4 AMCC) earned the victory in Game Two, 13-5.

GAME 1
- Medaille used an error to get the leadoff batter on, then added three hits to jump ahead in the first inning, 3-0. They went ahead an added two more runs in the second inning, tallying four hits. The second run of the frame scored due to a throwing error. 5-0 Medaille.
- In the bottom of the third, Maria Sutton (Smithfield, PA, Albert Gallatin) led off the inning with a double to right center. Lydia DeFazio (Harrison City, PA, Penn Trafford) singled with two outs to drive Sutton in from second base, cutting the Maverick lead to 5-1.
- After getting the third out in the bottom of the third, Medaille responded by adding three runs of their own, on four hits, extending their lead to 8-1.
- The Mavericks added two more in the top of the fifth. They loaded the bases with no outs. Mountie pitcher Lexi Wilt (Shanksville, PA, Shanksville-Stonycreek) limited the damage, only allowing two runs, both of which were unearned courtesy of a leadoff error.
- Mount Aloysius tried to extend the game in the bottom of the fifth, but were only able to score one run, ending the game. Alexa Nagy (Apollo, PA, Kiski Area) singled with two outs, driving home Sutton from third base. With the eight-run rule in effect, the game was ended prematurely.

GAME 2
- Wilt started off Game Two with a scoreless top-half of the first. Mount Aloysius jumped ahead quickly, in the bottom-half. Nagy and Makayla Weyant (Bedford, PA, Chestnut Ridge) each drove in runs with singles, while the third run was driven in by Mattie Harr (Latrobe, PA, Greater Latrobe), who reached on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded. 3-0 Mounties after one.
- Mount Aloysius added two more markers in the second inning, when Nagy hit a ground ball to third base with runners on second and third. The Maverick third basemen allowed Nagy to reach and Sutton to score from third, on a fielding error, then allowed Abby Reitz (Greencastle, PA, Greencastle Antrim) to score when she threw the ball away to first, giving the Mounties a 5-0 lead.
- Medaille responded in the top of the next inning, as they got two runs on a two-out homerun by their cleanup hitter.
- Following the two Maverick runs, Mount Aloysius went on to score five of their own runs in the bottom of the third. Reitz drove in the first two runs, on an RBI single to left field. With runners on second and third, Kayla Diehl (Schellsburg, PA, Chestnut Ridge) scored on a wild pitch, and Reitz moved up to third. DeFazio singled through the left side, driving in Reitz from third, putting hte Mounties up 9-2. After Nagy was hit by a pitch, Kayla Hopkins (Canonsburg, PA, Canon McMillan) singled to drive in DeFazio for the fifth run of the frame, extending the lead to 10-2.
- The Mavericks answered with three runs in the top of the fourth, cutting the lead to 10-5, with four hits in the inning.
- Mount Aloysius would come up to bat, in the bottom of the fifth, with a 10-5 lead. Diehl led off the inning with a single, followed by a Reitz double. DeFazio grounded out to second base, but reached on a fielding error, scoring Diehl from third base. After a line out, Hopkins ended Game Two with a triple to right center, scoring both DeFazio and Reitz, putting the Mounties ahead by eight runs, 13-5.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Both Diehl and Reitz tallied three hits in Game Two and each scored three runs, to help get the Mounties their victory.
- Hopkins added three hits on the day, with two of them coming in the second game. She also drove in a game-high three runs in Game Two.
- DeFazio went 3-for-6 on the day, and also reached on a walk. She is currently on a seven-game hitting streak and has reached base in all but one game, this season.

UP NEXT
Mount Aloysius will travel to play La Roche, on Wednesday. Both of their scheduled matchups to this point, in the season, have been postponed or cancelled. The Redhawks are currently 5-7 overall, with a 5-5 record in the AMCC, only one game back of the Mounties.
