CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Softball team extended their season, on Saturday, as they swept the first two games of a best-of-three series against Pitt-Greensburg. By winning the first two games, a third was not necessary. The series victory also guaranteed them a spot in the AMCC semi-finals.
GAME 1
- Both pitchers started off strong, allowing very limited action in the first three innings. The Mounties broke the game open in the fourth, as they scored six runs on seven hits.

Grace Gardini (York, PA, York Catholic),
Kayla Diehl (Schellsburg, PA, Chestnut Ridge),
Abby Reitz (Greencastle, PA, Greencastle Antrim), andÂ
Lydia DeFazio (Harrison City, PA, Penn Trafford) produced six consecutive hits, with five of the hits producing runs. The only extra base hit of the inning was the final one, as DeFazio tripled home Reitz, for the sixth run of the frame.
- The next action was not until the fourth inning, as the Bobcats scored three runs, to cut the Mountie lead in half.
- All of the scoring in Game One occured in those two at-bats, as the game finished 6-3. Starting pitcher,
Madison Hillard (Greenville, PA, Greenville), picked up her seventh win of the season, on the mound.
GAME 2
- In the second game, the action was much more spread out, with only one major inning of scoring. Greensburg started the game off by taking a 1-0 lead, in the top of the first inning, as the leadoff batter reached on an error and later came around to score.
- Mount Aloysius answered back immediately, as Diehl led off their half of the first, with her first career home run. The home run tied the game at 1.
- After a scoreless top-half of the second inning, the Mounties loaded the bases, with no outs. Pitt-Greensburg got an out, by a force-out at home, leaving the bases loaded for Reitz, with one out. Reitz cleared the bases with a three-run triple, giving the Mounties a 4-1 lead. Reitz would be brought around to score, later in the inning, as well as DeFazio, who reached via a walk. 6-1, Mount Aloysius.
- The Bobcats scraped across a run, in the third, as they tallied three hits in the frame.
- Reitz added another RBI triple, in the sixth inning, as Diehl scored on the play after a walk.Â
Alexa Nagy (Apollo, PA, Kiski Area) would later drive in Reitz, pushing the Mountie lead to 8-2, which would end as the final score.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Diehl produced two hits and three RBIs, on the day, including her first career home run. In Game Two, she scored three runs for Mount Aloysius.
- Reitz added to her team leading stats, as she drove in five runs, giving her 24 RBIs on the season. In Game Two, she hit two triples, giving her a team-high, six on the season. She also leads the AMCC in triples, and is in a tie for fourth place in RBIs.
- Hillard picked up the victory in both games for Mount Aloysius, giving her eight wins on the season, placing her in a tie for the most wins in the AMCC. She also dropped her ERA to 2.28, good for second in the league.
UP NEXT
The Mounties will await their AMCC Semi-final opponent, as they were the only series that has been completed. Due to Sunday's weather, the other three series were all postponed until Monday. They will play the winner of #2 Pitt-Bradford and #7 La Roche. If UPB wins, the Mounties will travel to Bradford, while they would host La Roche, if the Redhawks win the series.
