CRESSON, Pa. -- Beginning on August 30, the Mount Aloysius Men's and Women's Tennis programs will have a new Head Coach, in the form of Emily Maerz. A former standout in her own right, Maerz brings a wealth of experience to her new position.
"We are very excited to add Emily Maerz to our staff, this fall," said Athletic Director,
Kevin Kime. "She adds some great experience, which we think will help keep growing our tennis program. We look forward to seeing what she can do."
Her most recent stop, Maerz served as the Head Tennis Coach at Baldwin High School in Pittsburgh. Prior to leading the Highlanders, she had been the Head Women's Tennis Coach at Shippensburg University, where she spent the 2016-17 campaign. While at Shippensburg, her team was named an ITA All-Academic Team and produced the highest GPA of all teams at the university.
Maerz began her coaching career, at her alma mater, Hood College. During her two seasons at Hood, she led the team to the conference playoffs both times, and showed improvement going 5-10 in the first year, but followed it up going 9-9 overall. Her team was named an ITA All-Academic Team, twice. She also mentored three, All-Conference honorees. Also while at Hood, Maerz served as the City of Frederick Tennis Coordinator and as an instructor at the Villages of Urbana.
Maerz graduated in 2013 from Hood College with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, with a minor in Journalism. She was a four-year member of the basketball and tennis teams, while at Hood. In addition to being a dean's list student, Maerz was a four-year letterwinner in tennis. She is the All-time leader in wins at #1 Singles, and she is third overall wins, at the school. Maerz was also the recipient of the President's Award for academic achievement, athletic excellence, service and leadership.
The Mountie Tennis programs will begin play this fall. The men will look to add on to their recent AMCC Championship, while the women will look to get back to the AMCC postseason. Further information on their schedules will be available later this week.
