CRESSON, Pa. -- On Thursday, the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) announced the annual "Institutional Peak Performer Award". Mount Aloysius College was the 2022 Award Winner, having won for the fifth time in 10 years.
The Institutional Peak Performer is an annual award given to the AMCC school with the highest percentage of student-athletes named to the Academic All-Conference Team. A student-athlete earns the distinction as Academic All-Conference if they have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher, as of the fall semester. Mount Aloysius had 65.35% of their student-athletes receive the designation. Mount Aloysius has won the Institutional Peak Performer Award five times, which is more than any other AMCC-member school.
"We are extremely proud of our student-athletes for earning this award," said Athletic Director,
Kevin Kime. "They have continued to show their education is a top priority, while also balancing the demanding daily schedule of a student-athlete."
In addition to their recognition on the Academic All-Conference, 99 Mountie student-athletes were named Peak Performers. To be named a Peak Performer, a student-athlete must achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. A special subset of the Peak Performers were also selected for induction to Chi Alpha Sigma, the National Collegiate Student-Athlete Honor Society. Chi Alpha Sigma recognizes academic performance, leadership, and character for selected juniors and seniors. 40 Mounties were selected to be a part of Chi Alpha Sigma
As part of D3 Week, the AMCC annual recognizes both Team Peak Performance Award Winners and the Institutional Peak Performance Award. On Wednesday, the Baseball, Men's Golf, and Men's Soccer programs were all recognized as the AMCC Team Peak Performers, having the highest cumulative GPA in their respective sports. Baseball earned their first award since 2016, with a GPA of 3.26. Men's Golf won their third consecutive Team Peak Performer award, with a 3.59 GPA. The Men's Soccer program finished with a 3.38 GPA, winning their fourth consecutive award. The three teams were tied with Penn State Behrend for the most individual teams to win the award, this year.
The AMCC is an intercollegiate athletic conference affiliated with the NCAA's Division III. Member institutions are located in New York and Pennsylvania.
