Softball Season Ends at AMCC Tournament

ERIE, Pa. -- Over the weekend, the Mount Aloysius Softball team traveled to Penn State Behrend for the 2022 AMCC Softball Tournament. The tournament began on Friday with the Mounties as the #3 seed.

Leaders
- Lexi Wilt (Shanksville, PA, Shanksville-Stonycreek) led the Mounties at the plate, as she tallied three hits on the weekend, including a 2-RBI double in the win against Alfred State.
- Traci Hauser (Cherry Tree, Pa., Harmony) and Madison Hillard (Greenville, PA, Greenville) each made important appearances in the circle, as they combined to threw 18.1 innings on the weekend. They allowed just five runs in that span and both earned a spot on the AMCC All-Tournament team.

How It Happened
Game One (vs. Alfred State)
- Neither team scored in the first inning and Hauser produced a zero for Alfred State in the second. Mount Aloysius put together three consecutive hits, with back-to-back singles from Lilley Vereshack (Smokerun, Pa., Glendale) and Alexa Nagy (Apollo, PA, Kiski Area) to get two runners on. Wilt followed them up with a double, plating both runs and giving the Mounties a 2-0 lead.
- In the fourth inning, the Pioneers scored a run on a two-out single, cutting the Mountie lead to 2-1. However, both pitchers were strong down the stretch as Wilt singled for the only hit through the rest of the game. Mount Aloysius would advance to the next round with a 2-1 victory.

Game Two (vs. Penn State Altoona)
- After a scoreless first inning and top of the second inning, Penn State Altoona used six hits, including four consecutive to start the inning, to score five runs and take a 5-0 lead.
- PSA added a sixth run in the bottom of the third inning after they held the Mounties scoreless, putting them ahead, 6-0.
- Mount Aloysius cut the lead to 6-1, in the top of the fifth, on a sacrifice fly by Ella Pearson (Tyrone, Pa., Tyrone). They would not be able to push another run across, as the game continued to get into the later innings.
- The Lions responded by matching the Mounties, with a run in the fifth inning. The Mounties then threatened in the top of the seventh, scoring one run and having two runners still on base, but that was all they could muster, falling 7-2.

Game Three (vs. Pitt-Bradford)
- Mount Aloysius got the scoring started in the second inning when Tawnya Holben (Pittsburgh, PA, Fox Chapel) tripled with two outs, driving in Nagy from first base. The marker gave the Mounties a 1-0 lead.
- Offense was hard to come by, as the Mounties only registered two hits over the final five innings. Pitt-Bradford scored one time in the fourth inning, then added a go-ahead run in the top of the seventh. A 1-2-3 inning for the Mounties in the bottom of the seventh sealed their fate, as they fell to the Panthers, 2-1.

Into the Box Scores
- Mount Aloysius had only four hits in the win against Alfred State and the loss to Pitt-Bradford. Hauser held the Pioneers to only three hits in the Mounties' victory.
- Hillard and Wilt were the only two Mounties to have a multi-hit game during the weekend. Hillard's two hits came in the Mounties' loss to Penn State Altoona, while Wilt's two-hit performance came against Alfred State.

The Mounties finished up the season with an overall record of 19-14, while going 10-6 in AMCC play, prior to the tournament. The Mounties were seaking their third AMCC Title.
