ALTOONA, Pa. -- Over the past weekend, the Mount Aloysius Women's Bowling team took the short trip down the mountain to compete in the Red Flash Invitational, hosted by Saint Francis University. The Mounties finished in eighth place on the weekend.
In Friday's Traditional format, the Mounties bowled for a team average of 704 and picked up one victory, with a win against Penn State Altoona. Brianna Palasik (Cumberland, Md. / Allegany) led the Mounties with a 164.6 average on the day. Chloe Fisher (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) also had a solid day, averaging a score of 162.4 and bowling the two highest games of the day (198 and 191).
The competition moved to Baker format for Saturday's matches. Mount Aloysius finished 2-3 on the day, picking up wins over Pitt-Bradford (730-701) and Pitt-Greensburg (716-664). Their two victories kept them in eighth place heading into Sunday's bracket play.
Sunday's format was a Best-of-Seven baker format, with the Mounties facing off with Pitt-Bradford to start the day. After beating Pitt-Bradford, 4-1, the Mounties fell to D'Youville in four games. In their last matchup, the Mounties once again faced Pitt-Bradford, seeing the match go to all seven games, as the Mounties fell, 4-3. In the final match, the Mounties bowled a 192 in one of the games, which was their highest Baker game of the weekend.
Overall, the Mounties finished in eighth place for the weekend. Fisher led the Mounties with a 17.00 Baker average, over the two Baker competition days. Palasik was second on the team with a 14.65 average, followed by Shannon Broadfoot (Bloomfield, N.J. / Bloomfield), who averaged a 13.8.
The Mounties will return to action, this coming weekend, when they travel to Latrobe for their first AMCC Round Robin of the year. AMCC Round Robin #1 was originally scheduled for the fall, but was postponed to later in February.
"We are so excited to finally have a conference weekend," said Head Coach Jessica Miller. "This is going to be an interesting year that seems to have no clear idea how it will go. We're just excited to finally see a season forming for us, even if it took us until the second half of our season to see it."
