MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Mount Aloysius Softball team got back on the field, Wednesday, as they continue their Spring Break trip. After falling to SUNY Cortland in the first game, they earned a come-from-behind victory against Worcester State.

Maggie Cypher (Kittanning, Pa. / Armstrong)Â and
Samantha Moschetteri (Spencerport, N.Y. / Spencerport) each had two RBIs to lead the Mounties. Both Cutri's RBIs came in the loss to Cortland, while Moschetteri drove in both of her runs in the win against Worcester State.
- Cypher had three hits on the day, while
Alysha Cutri (Imperial, Pa. / Bishop Canevin)Â also had three hits. Cutri went 3-for-4 in the Mounties' victory.
- Freshmen
Jessica Koptcho (Mountain Top, Pa. / Crestwood)Â and
Marina Shawley (Bellefonte, Pa. / Bald Eagle)Â made a big impact in the Mounties' win, combining for 4.0 innings and only allowing one run. Shawley earned the win, the first of her career, improving her record to 1-1.
How It Happened
Game One vs. SUNY Cortland
- Cortland grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, scoring on a two-out single. Mount Aloysius did not answer until the bottom of the second inning when Cypher delivered a two-run single with two outs, giving the Mounties a 2-1 advantage, through two frames.
- In the bottom of the third inning,
Ella Pearson (Tyrone, Pa. / Tyrone) led off with a double. She would score on a
Whitney Cole (McDonald, Pa. / South Fayette)Â single, extending the lead to 3-1.
- After a 1-2-3 inning for both teams in the fourth, the Red Dragons hit their stride by scoring 10 unanswered runs. They scored four times in the fifth inning and six times in the sixth, going ahead 13-3. They held the Mounties scoreless in the bottom of the sixth, ending the contest a frame early.
Game Two vs. Worcester State
- To start the second game, WSU scored in the top half of the first inning and the Mounties answered by scoring twice in the bottom half. Cutri and
Anna Peterman (Clymer, Pa. /Â Penns Manor)Â both produced RBI singles, giving the Mounties a 2-1 lead.
- Worcester State scored twice in the second inning and three runs in the third inning, while keeping the Mounties off the board, to lead 6-2.
- Both teams failed to score in the fourth and fifth innings before the Lancers added another run in the sixth inning, giving them a 7-2 lead. Moschetteri produced an RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth inning, with two outs, to cut the deficit back down to four runs.
- In the bottom of the seventh,
Sarah Henninger (DuBois, Pa. /Â DuBois)Â led off the inning with a triple and
Makayla Weyant (Bedford, Pa. /Â Chestnut Ridge)Â quickly drove her home with a single, making the score 7-4. Cutri followed up Weyant with a double, giving the Mounties two runners in scoring position with nobody out. Cypher grounded out to drive home Weyant from third base, cutting it to 7-5 with one out.
Bella Piacesi (Woodbridge, Va. / Charles Cogan)Â scored on the next batter, after entering as a pinch runner, as Shawley reached on an error. Cole then singled and stole second base, putting two runners in scoring position again, this time with one out. Pearson reached on a fielder's choice to drive home Shawley and Moschetteri reached on another fielder's choice which allowed Cole to score the winning run, giving the Mounties an 8-7 walkoff victory.
Into the Box Scores
- Mount Aloysius got out-hit by ten in their loss to SUNY Cortland, 16-6. They turned around an out-hit WSU, by a small margin, 13-12.
- The Mounties used three different pitchers in both games. Each of the three pitchers gave up multiple runs in the loss to Cortland. In the win against WSU, the three pitchers allowed seven total runs, with five being earned.

- Mount Aloysius returns to action, Thursday, with two more contests. They open up the day with a contest against Ithaca before a rematch with Saint Joseph (Conn.).
- Ithaca is 5-1 on the season, having won their last five games.
- USJ is 2-6 on the season, with a loss to Mount Aloysius back on Monday. The Mounties won the contest, 5-4.
