CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Softball team improved to 12-2 in conference play with a 4-0 weekend which saw commanding wins against La Roche and Hilbert. Tallying 52 runs over 21 innings of play, the Mounties go into the conference postseason with a share of the top position in the AMCC.
How It Happened
Game One (La Roche)
-
Sierra Walters (East Freedom, Pa.) dominated from the mound for the Mounties, throwing ten strikeouts en route to a no-hitter. The defensive dominance was matched by an early scoring rush as Mount Aloysius picked up eight runs in the first inning, immediately matching the effort with five in the second. The Mounties held this lead through the remaining three innnings, closing the contest with a 13-0 win.
-
Grace Gardini (York, PA) had a strong showing from the batter's box, going 2-3 with four RBI.
Game Two (La Roche)
- Strong pitching once again led the way for Mount Aloysius, with La Roche picking up just a single hit against
Jessica Koptcho (Mountain Top, Pa.), who managed five strikeouts against 18 batters faced. The Mounties scoring efforts opened up scoring with an RBI off a
Sarah Henninger (DuBois, Pa.) triple, finishing off the first inning with two more runs. While not as rapid a scoring pace as the first game of the doubleheader, Mount Aloysius continued chipping away, picking up three runs during the 2nd and the 3rd. A solo home run saw La Roche score their only run of the day, which was answered with three Mount Aloysius runs to close the game, 9-1 for the Mounties.
- Henninger had a productive offensive effort, going 4-4 with a team-high 4 RBI.
Game Three (Hilbert)
- Walters again showed impressive pitching, striking out seven Hilbert batters while giving up just two hits. Mount Aloysius made their move in the second inning, with the six-hit effort generating nine runs for the visiting Mounties. Three consecutive strikeouts kept Hilbert from answering, before Mount Aloysius would widen their lead with a six-run third inning, helped by four errors from the hosts. The Mounties would hold this lead, closing the game at 15-0.
-
Alysha Cutri (Imperial, Pa.) lead the Mounties in hits, going 3-4 with two RBI.
Game Four (Hilbert)
- Koptcho and
Madison Hillard (Greenville, PA) put together six strikeouts against 27 batters faced in what would be the strongest offensive showing from an opponent over the weekend for the Mounties. Mount Aloysius once again opened the scoring for the game, notching three in the second inning off of a pair of doubles from
Grace Gardini (York, PA) and
Kayla Diehl (Schellsburg, PA). A five-run 4th inning expanded the Mountie lead, which Hilbert would answer with two runs in the fifth, marking the only dropped inning of the Mounties' weekend. Responding with a vengeance, Mount Aloysius would close the game with six runs in the sixth, finishing the weekend with a 15-3 victory.
- Henninger lead the Mounties in hits, going 4-5 with an RBI.
Whitney Cole (McDonald, Pa.) also had a strong showing, going 3-5 with three RBI.
