Mountaineers Take Down Mounties

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- On Saturday, the Mount Aloysius Rifle team traveled to West Virginia for a matchup with the Mountaineers. It was their toughest test, to date, as the Mounties fell, 4,744-4,530.

Mount Aloysius was led by a trio that all finished within two points of each other. Elissa Barron (Hooversville, Pa. / North Star), Molly Miller (Alum Bank, Pa. / Chestnut Ridge), and Kayla Trinkle (Zionsville, Pa. / Southern Lehigh), were the Mounties' top three scores. Barron had the Mounties' best score with a 1,142. Trinkle was right behind her with 1,141 and Miller followed with a 1,140. Despite Barron's top score, Trinkle had the Mounties' best mark in smallbore, with a 565, and Miller held the highest score in Air Rifle with a 581.

Sydney Castel (Portage, Pa. / Portage) and Samantha Hayman (Berlin, Pa. / Berlin Brothersvalley) also contributed for the Mounties, tallying scores over 1,100. It is the first match that all five Mountie shooters produced scores over 1,100.

The Mounties were out-paced by West Virginia, as the Mountaineers shot a score of 4,744. That is the highest score that any of the Mounties' opponents have shot this season.

Mount Aloysius has one more competition weekend for the fall semester, November 9-10. They will travel to Morehead State, where they will shoot against the Eagles on both days. Morehead State is Coach Siarra Crum's alma mater, where she competed from 2015-19.
