ERIE, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team fell to the top-seeded Penn State Behrend in the 2024 AMCC tournament semifinal this Wednesday, November 6th.
The Mounties faced strong competition from their hosts on both sides of the ball from the onset, as the Lions would pour on five shot attempts in the first 12 minutes of the game. Holding strong defensively, the Mounties would earn their first shot of the contest in the 18th minute, but the attempt would sail high. Behrend would earn their first goal on their seventh shot of the game, putting one past the Mounties in the 22nd minute. Only six minutes later, Behrend would score again, marking their last goal of the half with 17 minutes to play in the first. The Mounties would earn a handful of looks, including an
Amanda Price (Columbia, Pa., Hempfield) attempt narrowly deflecting off the crossbar, but struggled to find the back of the net, ending the first facing an 0-2 deficit.
The second half would see the visitors' struggles rise, as the Lions would score only 90 seconds into the half. Behrend would score three more times in the second half, while out shooting the Mounties sixteen to one across the closing 45 minutes. The Mounties sole shot attempt of the second would come in the 79th minute, but would sail high, ending the Mountie season in a 0-6 loss.
The Mountie women conclude 2024 with a 5-11-2 overall record, and a 3-4-1 record in conference play.
