CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Softball team opened up their home schedule, on Tuesday, when they hosted Pitt-Greensburg. The Mounties (6-10, 0-4 AMCC) had some struggles offensively and fell to the Bobcats (8-8, 2-0 AMCC) in both ends of the doubleheader.
In Game One, both pitchers dominated the early parts of the game, as they allowed just two hits each over the first six frames. In the top of the seventh inning, the Bobcats struck for two runs to grab a 2-0 lead, before holding the Mounties scoreless in the bottom half. The Bobcats earned the 2-0 victory, despite Mountie starter
Jessica Koptcho (Mountain Top, Pa. /Â Crestwood)Â tossing a complete game, where she struck out nine batters and allowed just four hits.
Game Two saw both teams go scoreless again in the first two innings. Pitt-Greensburg scored first, in the third inning, loading the bases and picking up two consecutive bases loaded hits, to go ahead 2-0. They added five more runs in the fourth inning, chasing Mountie starter,
Sierra Walters (East Freedom, Pa. / Claysburg-Kimmel). Prior to exiting the game, Walters picked up two strikeouts which brought her to 100 strikeouts in her career. She became the sixth Mountie in program history to reach 100 career strikeouts.
Trailing 7-0, the Mounties bats started to come alive. They tallied five hits in the bottom of the fourth inning, which produced three runs to cut the lead to 7-3.
Isabella Marquez (Greensburg, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic)Â and
Bella Piacesi (Woodbridge, Va. / Charles Cogan)Â each produced RBI base hits to fuel the rally. Piacesi added another hit later in the game, going 2-for-3.
In the seventh inning, Piacesi delivered a two-out double and scored when
Katelyn Garber (Midlothian, Va. /Â Manchester)Â followed with an RBI-single, cutting the Bobcat lead to 7-4. However, the Bobcats added an insurance run in the seventh inning and had a 1-2-3 inning on defense, solidifying an 8-4 victory.
Despite starting 6-4 on their trip the Myrtle Beach, the Mounties have dropped their last six contests. They will look to right the ship, on Saturday, when they travel to Wells for another AMCC-matchup. The doubleheader will be the start of a stretch where they will play three consecutive days and four out of five. They will have plenty of opportunities to get their rough patch turned around.
