Bradford, PA - Mountie women's soccer earned a hard-fought 2-1 road victory over Pitt-Bradford on Saturday afternoon at the Kessel Athletic Complex. The win moves the Mounties to 5-6-4 overall and 3-2-2 in AMCC play, keeping them firmly in the hunt for postseason positioning.
The Mounties controlled possession for much of the match, out shooting the Panthers 18-6 and generating consistent pressure in the attacking third. The Mounties broke through late in the first half when senior
Jordan Bailey (Crofton, Md., South River) scored her fourth goal of the season in the 42nd minute, finishing a well-placed assist from junior
Sara Borlie (Kennett Square, Pa., Unionville) to give the Mounties a 1-0 halftime lead.
In the 60th minute, senior Natalie Despot (Hollidaysburg, Pa., Hollidaysburg) doubled the advantage with her second goal of the year, extending the Mountie lead to 2-0. Pitt-Bradford managed to cut into the deficit in the 83rd minute on a goal from Ellie Yeager, but the Mounties held strong down the stretch to secure the much-needed conference win.
The Mounties' defense was steady throughout, limiting Pitt-Bradford to just three shots on goal. The midfield unit, led by Borlie and Despot, helped the Mounties maintain rhythm and control in transition, while the back line handled late pressure effectively.
Up Next: The Mounties travel to Greensburg, PA as they'll take on the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats (8-7-2, 5-1-1 AMCC) on Tuesday for the last contest of the regular season. It's a crucial match for the Mounties as they'll look to stay ahead of PS Altoona and La Roche to secure the #4 seed going into the AMCC playoffs.
