GREENSBURG, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius men's tennis program captured their first conference win of the spring, taking down Pitt-Greensburg (1-4, 0-1 AMCC) on Friday, Feb 28.
The Mounties would take control from the first serve, putting together steady points across the doubles lineup to earn the first point of the match. FreshmenÂ
Stefano Gasasira (Silver Spring, Md., John F. Kennedy) andÂ
Tristen Ruffley (Bedford, Pa., Bedford) would face the stiffest challenge at one doubles, running in to a mix of heavy baseline shots and well-placed defensive lobs, but put together comfortable service games en route to a 6-2 victory. The Mounties would earn the clean sweep in doubles, taking down two and three 6-0 and 6-2, respectively.Â
Singles would also prove fortuitous for the Mounties, with Ruffley taking a 6-0 6-0 win at two singles to earn the Mounties their second point of the day. Senior would put together a solid performance at three singles, steadying himself into an all-court style against the host's deep groundstroke game, taking the match 6-2 6-1. At six singles, juniorÂ
Trent Strous (New Columbia, Pa., Milton) would earn his first singles win of the year, collecting the 6-2 6-3 victory behind well-placed forehands and backhand pace change-ups. The Mounties would falter at four singles, but take victories at one and five, earning a 6-1 overall win.Â
The Mounties face a quick turnaround, heading to Erie tomorrow, Mar 1, to take on Penn State Behrend. The Lions enter the contest 4-3 this year, coming off a 5-2 win over Alfred University.Â
