CRESSON, PA. – The Mount Aloysius softball team (9-6, 2-0) returned to action today, hosting conference opponent the Alfred State Pioneers (2-10, 0-2) in a doubleheader. The Mounties aimed to continue their dominance on home turf after winning their first two home games of the season.
GAME 1
The Mounties showcased both strong hitting and stellar pitching in the opening game. They held Alfred State to just two runs, while seven of the nine Mountie batters recorded a hit. Jumping out to a 4-0 lead after three innings, the Mounties never looked back, securing a 5-2 victory.
Several Mounties contributed key performances at the plate.
Sarah Henninger (DuBois, Pa., DuBois) went 2-for-4, while
Whitney Cole (McDonald, Pa., South Fayette) delivered an RBI double.
Aisy Myers (Sidman, Pa., Forest Hills) added to the offense, going 2-for-3 and driving in two runs.
On the mound,
Sierra Walters (East Freedom, Pa., Claysburg-Kimmel) was dominant, pitching a complete game with a career-high 13 strikeouts. She threw 136 pitches, allowing just one earned run, lowering her season ERA to an impressive 2.22.
GAME 2
Following their 5-2 victory in Game 1, the Mounties found themselves in a pitching duel in Game 2. Both teams remained scoreless until the sixth inning when each managed to push across a run, setting up a dramatic finish.
In the bottom of the seventh with the game tied 1-1, the Mounties had a chance to walk it off.
Brenna Watts (Thompsontown, Pa. , East Juniata) led off the inning by reaching first on an error.
Morgan Hassen (Northern Cambria, Pa., Northern Cambria) grounded out, advancing Watts to second.
Sarah Henninger followed with another groundout, moving Watts to third. With two outs,
Whitney Cole stepped up and delivered the biggest hit of the game, driving a ball into center field to bring home the winning run as the Mounties celebrated a walk-off victory.
Jessica Koptcho (Mountain Top, Pa., Crestwood) took the mound for the Mounties and pitched a complete game, throwing 94 pitches with five strikeouts while allowing just one run. Koptcho, now has a dominating season ERA of just 1.58.

Riding a four-game home winning streak, the Mounties will return to action this Saturday, continuing their homestand against conference opponent Penn State Behrend (5-11, 0-0). The first pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.
