Mounties Battle at Pitt-Bradford

BRADFORD, PA. – The Mountie Softball Team (16-13, 9-5 AMCC) hit the road today to face conference opponent Pitt-Bradford (9-23, 5-9 AMCC). These games marked the final away contests of the regular season for the Mounties, as the playoff race continues to tighten at the top of the conference leaderboard.

GAME ONE
The Mounties struck early in game one, jumping out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning. Sarah Henninger (DuBois, Pa., DuBois) led off with a single to right-center field, and a few batters later,Maggie Cypher (Kittanning, Pa., Armstrong) ripped a double down the left-field line to bring Henninger home.

The game would remain scoreless from that point on, as both pitchers settled into a rhythm. On the mound for the Mounties was Jessica Koptcho (Mountain Top, Pa., Crestwood), who has been having an outstanding 2025 season and was looking to earn her 10th win of the year.

The Mounties' bats came alive again in the sixth inning, where they plated three more runs to extend their lead to 4-0. Maggie Cypher led off with a single to left field. With one out, Sophie Smith (Mapleton Depot, Pa., Mount Union) singled to move Cypher to third. Brenna Watts (Thompsontown, Pa. , East Juniata) then delivered an RBI single to score Cypher. Pinch-hitter Aisy Myers (Sidman, Pa., Forest Hills) followed with a single to load the bases. Maya Capozzoli (Camp Hill, Pa., Cedar Cliff) brought Smith home with another single, and with two outs, Sarah Henninger added an RBI single to cap off the scoring.

The Mounties would hold on for the 4-0 shutout victory. Koptcho was dominant, pitching a complete game over seven innings. She threw 103 pitches, allowed just five hits, and held the Panthers scoreless to secure her 10th win of the season.

GAME TWO
Looking to carry their momentum into game two, the Mounties aimed for a sweep of the Panthers. However, things did not go as planned.

The Mounties built a comfortable 2-0 lead after five strong innings. Both runs came in the fifth when Sarah Henninger led off with a walk. Whitney Cole (McDonald, Pa., South Fayette) followed with a single, and a Panthers throwing error allowed Henninger to score and Cole to advance around the bases. Two consecutive groundouts later, Cole would cross the plate as well, giving Mount Aloysius a 2-0 lead.

However, disaster struck in the sixth inning. Pitt-Bradford mounted a rally, scoring seven runs after being held scoreless through the first five innings. The Mounties couldn't recover and fell 7-2.

Sierra Walters (East Freedom, Pa., Claysburg-Kimmel) pitched the bulk of the game for Mount Aloysius, going 5.1 innings. She threw 99 pitches, struck out four batters, allowed eight hits, and gave up five earned runs.

UP NEXT…
The Mounties will return home for their final doubleheader of the regular season, hosting conference opponent Carlow (16-22, 7-7 AMCC). The games are scheduled for April 30th, with first pitch set for 3:00 PM.
