Henninger and Koptcho Named All-Region by NFCA

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- On Friday, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced their annual Division III All-Region teams, which included 383 student-athletes from 170 schools. Mount Aloysius' Sarah Henninger (DuBois, Pa. / DuBois) and Jessica Koptcho (Mountain Top, Pa. / Crestwood) were both named to the All-Region Third Team in Region VII. They are the first Mounties in program history to be named All-Region.

Henninger was the shortstop for Region VII, marking her first career All-Region selection. She led the Mounties offensively, hitting lead off for most of the season and carrying a .484 batting average, which was second in the AMCC and 29th in all of Division III. Last week, Henninger was named First Team All-AMCC, marking her third time on the All-Conference teams.

Koptcho had the best year of her career, as she was named the AMCC's Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-Conference, leading to her first career selection on the All-Region teams as a pitcher. She led the AMCC with a 1.37 ERA, which also ranked 26th across Division III. Koptcho's 137 strikeouts also led the AMCC and ranked her 38th nationally.

The duo became the first All-Region recipents for Mount Aloysius softball in the history of the program. They were joined by fellow AMCC student-athlete, Jocelyn McNany, from Penn State Behrend. McNany was the AMCC's Player of the Year and selected to the NFCA All-Region First Team.

The awards honor student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with selection to one of three teams. NFCA member head coaches nominate and then vote for the winners in their respective region.

If they were not already voted to an All-Region squad, conference Players and Pitchers of the Year from member institutions are added to the third team in their region, so long as they are nominated by their member head coach and receive votes.

All honorees move forward to be considered for selection for the three NFCA Division III All-America squads, which will be announced May 28 online and on-site at the NCAA Division III Finals banquet in Bloomington, Ill.

The NFCA is the professional organization for fastpitch softball coaches. Known for its highly-regarded coaches polls and All-America awards, the NFCA also educates and supports softball coaches on a variety of different levels: from podcasts to awards, to in-person events and National Convention.
