Mounties Defeat Bison For Second Straight Win

Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team picked up its second straight win on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Bethany College Bison 3-1 at Kelly Field.

After a scoreless first half, the Mounties found their stride in the final 45 minutes. Brooke Thomas (Altoona, Pa., Altoona) opened the scoring in the 63rd minute with her second goal of the season, giving Mount Aloysius a 1-0 lead.

The Mounties continued to press and doubled their advantage late in the match when Erin Stoltzfus (Elizabethtown, PA, Elizabethtown) netted her first career goal in the 88th minute. Just two minutes later, Mount Aloysius struck again as Sara Borlie (Kennett Square, Pa., Unionville) found the back of the net off an assist from Kaylee Dowdell (Windber, PA, Windber), pushing the lead to 3-0.

Bethany answered quickly with a goal from Brooke Fuleki less than 20 seconds later, but the Mounties held firm over the final moments to close out the 3-1 victory.

Although the Mounties were victorious, the Bison held a 15-10 edge in total shots, but Mount made the most of its opportunities, putting eight of its 10 attempts on goal.

Goalkeeper play was strong on both sides, with Bethany's keeper recording five saves and the Mounties' back line limiting the Bison, despite seven saves from GK  McKenna Meadows (Lewisburg, PA, Lewisburg)

With the win, Mount Aloysius improves to 2-3-2 on the year while Bethany drops to 1-4. The Mounties wrap up non-conference play on a two-game win streak. They begin conference play a week from now versus Hilbert College. They'll play game one of the conference DH with kickoff expected for 1:00 PM next Saturday.
