Swarthmore, PA - Women's soccer put together a determined defensive effort on Monday evening, falling 2-0 on the road to nationally-ranked No. 19 Swarthmore College. While the result went in favor of the Garnet, the night belonged to Mountie goalkeeper sophomore
McKenna Meadows (Lewisburg, PA, Lewisburg) who delivered a career night.
Meadows faced one of the most high-powered attacks in the country and responded with 19 saves, breaking the Mount Aloysius women's soccer program record for most stops in a single game. The junior was tested early and often, as Swarthmore fired 18 shots in the first half alone, but she repeatedly denied the Garnet to keep the Mounties within striking distance. Her record-setting effort also lifted her season total to 117, which already ranks third all-time for most in a single season at Mount Aloysius.
While opportunities were limited against a disciplined Swarthmore defense, the Mounties showed fight late in the match, generating two second-half shots, including one on target. Midfield play from the Mounties helped relieve some of the pressure and push the ball into the attacking third, a promising sign as the team transitions back into AMCC play on Saturday @ Penn State Behrend.
Sophomore Emma Coble (Dover, PA, Dover Area) recorded the lone shot on goal by the Mounties. Lone freshman Jaleigh Dixon (Bloomery, WV, Hampshire) registered the other shot for Mount Aloysius.
