MOREHEAD, Ky. / LEXINGTON, Va. - The Mount Aloysius rifle team continued its record-setting start to the 2026-27 season, establishing new program records on both days of competition at Morehead State on October 3-4 before returning to action this Saturday at Virginia Military Institute (VMI).
Following a program-record performance the previous week against defending NCAA champion West Virginia, the Mounties continued to raise the bar in Morehead, posting aggregate scores of 4,591 and 4,592 across the two-day competition. Mount Aloysius followed those performances with a 4,578 aggregate score at VMI on Saturday, finishing second among three competing teams.
At Morehead State, the Mounties opened the weekend with a 4,591 aggregate, highlighted by a 2,328 air rifle score. Molly Miller (Alum Bank, Pa., Chestnut Ridge) led Mount Aloysius individually with an 1,155 aggregate, including a 572 in smallbore and a 583 in air rifle. Kayla Trinkle (Zionsville, Pa., Southern Lehigh) paced the team with an 1,156 aggregate, firing a 569 in smallbore and a 587 in air rifle. Stevens recorded an 1,152 aggregate, while Abigail Chimera (Clarence Center, N.Y., Clarence) added an 1,141. Mount Aloysius then traveled to Lexington, Virginia, to face VMI on Saturday, October 17. The Mounties finished second with a 4,578 aggregate, trailing VMI's 4,595 while finishing ahead of VMI's women's team, which posted a 4,562.
Trinkle delivered the standout performance of the day, finishing first overall among individual competitors with an 1,170 aggregate. She fired a team-best 583 in smallbore before adding a 587 in air rifle. Her smallbore score led the entire field, while her air rifle mark ranked second overall. Trinkle's performance continued an impressive stretch for the Mountie standout as she helped lead the team's record-breaking efforts earlier in the month.
