Mountie Women's Soccer Battles Pitt-Bradford in Narrow Conference Loss

BRADFORD, Pa. — The Mount Aloysius College women's soccer team put together a strong offensive performance on Saturday, October 24, generating 18 shots in a hard-fought 1-0 conference loss on the road.

The Mounties controlled much of the offensive action throughout the afternoon, finishing with an 18-7 advantage in total shots and a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. Despite creating numerous scoring opportunities, Mount Aloysius was unable to find the equalizer after surrendering a goal in the 17th minute.

Mount Aloysius came out aggressively in the opening half, with Sara Borlie (Kennett Square, Pa., Unionville) creating an early scoring opportunity in the ninth minute. The Mounties continued to apply pressure, as Abby Bell (Hollidaysburg, Pa., Hollidaysburg) generated multiple chances and helped keep the offense moving forward.

Bell recorded two shots on goal during the opening half, while Borlie continued to challenge the opposing defense. Lacey Ripka (Martinsburg, PA, Central) also contributed an opportunity in the 36th minute, forcing a save as the Mounties searched for their first goal.

Despite recording nine first-half shots, including five on target, Mount Aloysius entered halftime trailing 1-0.

The Mounties returned from the break with renewed energy, continuing to create opportunities in the attacking third. Borlie remained a consistent offensive threat, recording shots on goal in the 52nd and 57th minutes.

Abigail Solano (Spencerport, N.Y., Spencerport) helped lead the second-half attack, recording two shots on goal in quick succession during the 71st and 72nd minutes. Her offensive contributions kept the pressure on as Mount Aloysius searched for the tying goal.

The Mounties continued to battle throughout the closing stages, generating four second-half corner kicks and maintaining an aggressive offensive approach. Erin Stoltzfus (Elizabethtown, PA, Elizabethtown) and Becca Fetchko (Windber, Pa., Richland) added scoring attempts, while Bell recorded another shot in the final seconds.

Borlie led the Mounties with four shots, all four on goal, while Bell and Solano each finished with four shots and two on target. Stoltzfus added two shots as Mount Aloysius finished with 18 total attempts and six corner kicks.

Defensively, the Mounties limited their opponent to just seven shots and three on goal. McKenna Meadows (Lewisburg, PA, Lewisburg) started in goal and recorded one save during the opening half, while Katie Scott (Mineral Point, Pa. , Central Cambria) played the final 45 minutes, adding one save and keeping a clean sheet in the second half.

Although the Mounties were unable to come away with the result, their offensive production demonstrated the team's ability to create consistent scoring opportunities. Mount Aloysius continued to compete until the final whistle, showing determination on both ends of the field.

With the result, Mount Aloysius moves to 1-12-2 overall and 1-4-1 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) play. The Mounties will look to build on their offensive performance as they play their final regular season game Tuesday at home against Penn-State Altoona.
