Mountie Golf Battles at Red Wolves Invitational

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - Mount Aloysius golf wrapped up a strong two-day weekend at the Red Wolves Invitational hosted by Saint Francis, with both the Mountie men's and women's teams competing against a talented field.

Fritch opened the tournament with an 84 in Monday's opening round before carding an 89 in the second round to finish with a two-day total of 173 (+29).

Fritch's fifth-place finish marked the top individual performance for the Mounties, as she remained among the tournament leaders throughout the two rounds.

Owen Thompson (Gibsonia, PA, Pine-Richland High School) and William Willis (Chesterfield, Va., Benedictine) both finished tied for 19th overall at +17. Thompson, who made his debut with the A team this tournament, opened with a +10 before improving to a +7 in the second round, while Willis posted a +13 in round one before turning in one of the Mounties' strongest second-round scores with a +4.

Louie Van De Velde (Punta De Mita, Mexico, Altitude Academies) finished tied for 39th at +23, posting a +16 in round one before bouncing back with a +7 on day two.

The two-day event provided one final opportunity for both Mount Aloysius squads to compete before turning their attention to the AMCC Championships.

The Mounties will return to action Monday and Tuesday for the AMCC Championships at Indiana Country Club in Indiana, Pennsylvania. With the conference championship on deck, Mountie golf will look to carry the momentum from the Red Wolves Invitational into their biggest event of the season as they look to defend their first ever AMCC title from last year.
