CRESSON, Pa. - On a beautiful night for soccer at Kelly Field, the Mount Aloysius women's soccer team battled the Marietta College Pioneers in a hard-fought contest Wednesday evening, ultimately falling 3-0.
The Mounties battled throughout the opening half, but Marietta found the back of the net twice in the first 13 minutes to take a 2-0 advantage into halftime. Jaylyn Thornton opened the scoring in the ninth minute before Myah Byers doubled the Pioneers' lead just under four minutes later.
Despite the deficit, Mount Aloysius continued to compete and generated several opportunities throughout the contest. The Mounties finished with eight shots, including five on target, while Abigail Solano (Spencerport, N.Y., Spencerport) led the way with four shots and two shots on goal. Lacey Ripka (Martinsburg, PA, Central), Erin Stoltzfus (Elizabethtown, PA, Elizabethtown) and Sara Borlie (Kennett Square, Pa., Unionville) each added a shot on target.
The Mounties' defense and goalkeeping kept the Pioneers off the scoreboard for nearly the entirety of the second half. Katie Scott (Mineral Point, Pa. , Central Cambria) made two saves during the opening 45 minutes, while McKenna Meadows (Lewisburg, PA, Lewisburg) added five saves in the second half.
Marietta added an insurance goal with just five seconds remaining in regulation, with Madelyn Call finding the back of the net to make it a 3-0 final.

Mount Aloysius moves to 1-8-1 overall on the season and remains 1-0 in AMCC play.
The Mounties will look to bounce back in their next contest as they continue conference play this Saturday in New York versus the Hilbert Hawks (2-8, 1-1 AMCC). Kickoff will be at 3:30 pm at Hawk Field in Hamburg, NY.
