STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — The Mount Aloysius men's golf team finished third at the Pennsylvania Classic Saturday and Sunday, fueled by consistent scoring from its top five golfers.
The Mounties posted strong two-day totals, highlighted by standout rounds from William Willis (Chesterfield, Va., Benedictine), who carded a 73 on Sunday to help Mount Aloysius climb the leaderboard. Josh Nicholl (Ballymena, Northern Ireland, Cullybackey College) and Ethan Batstone (Swindon, England, South Gloucestershire and Stroud) led the team with steady play, each posting a two-day total of 152. Viktor Cussil (Sigtuna, Sweden, Arlandagymnasiet) added 155, while Luke Sands (Stockholm, Sweden, Upplands-bro Gymnasium) contributed 157, rounding out a balanced lineup that kept the Mounties in contention throughout the tournament.
Mount Aloysius improved significantly on Day 2, with the team recording several low rounds and making up ground on the front-runners. The combination of individual consistency and depth allowed the Mounties to secure a top-three finish against a competitive field.
Coach Link praised the team's resilience and depth, noting that contributions from all five players were crucial in navigating the challenging Penn State Blue Course and maintaining position on the leaderboard.
With this performance, Mount Aloysius opens a strong spring season, demonstrating that a well-rounded lineup can compete with the best in the region.
