West Mifflin, PA - The Mounties were dominant on Wednesday evening, sweeping Carlow in dominant fashion behind elite pitching, good offense, and clean defensive play. From a historic outing in the opener to another shutdown effort in game two, Mount Aloysius controlled every phase of the doubleheader.
Game One: Mount Aloysius 9, Carlow 0 (5 innings)
Jessica Koptcho (Mountain Top, Pa., Crestwood)Â delivered a performance for the record books, tossing the first perfect game of her career in the 9-0 victory. The right-hander was untouchable, retiring all 15 batters she faced while striking out six in a remarkably efficient outing (55 pitches).
Offensively, the Mounties capitalized early and often, taking advantage of Carlow miscues to build momentum. Hanna Stedman (Washington, Pa., Trinity)Â sparked the scoring in the first, coming around on a pair of Celtic throwing errors. The Mounties broke the game open in the third and fourth innings, plating eight combined runs as pressure on the basepaths forced Carlow into costly mistakes.
Ava Doyle (Blanchard, Pa, Central Mountain)Â and her sister Taylor Doyle (Blanchard, Pa., Central Mountain)Â were both key contributors at the plate, combining for three hits and multiple RBI while consistently applying pressure offensively. Ava finished with two hits, two runs scored, and a double, while Taylor added an RBI knock. Sarah Henninger (DuBois, Pa., DuBois)Â also starred with two hits, including a triple, and two RBI, while Greysyn Gable (Kylertown, Pa., West Branch Area HS)Â chipped in an RBI as part of an 11-hit attack.
Behind Koptcho's perfection and a relentless offensive effort, the Mounties cruised to the run-rule victory to open the sweep.
Game Two: Mount Aloysius 7, Carlow 0
The Mounties carried their momentum into game two, where Brenna Watts (Thompsontown, Pa., East Juniata)Â authored another outstanding pitching performance in a 7-0 shutout. Watts went the distance, allowing just three hits while keeping the Celtics off balance all evening. It was Watts's first career complete-game shutout.
After a quiet start, the Mounties broke through in the third inning. Henninger delivered again in a big moment, driving in two runs with a double before Alysha Cutri (Imperial, Pa., Bishop Canevin)Â followed with an RBI single. The Mounties continued to build their lead with steady, timely hitting across multiple innings.
The Doyle sisters remained a factor offensively, with Ava collecting two hits and Taylor adding another multi-hit performance. Henninger put together another strong outing with two hits, three runs scored, and two RBI, while Cutri added two hits and two RBIs of her own. Contributions from Gable and Maggie Cypher (Kittanning, Pa., Armstrong) helped round out a balanced offensive effort.
Combined with Watts' command in the circle and a clean defensive showing, the Mounties secured the sweep in convincing fashion.
