Huntingdon, PA - The Mount Aloysius softball team closed out its regular season schedule on Wednesday afternoon, falling in both ends of a non-conference doubleheader at Juniata College. Juniata claimed a 2-0 victory in game one before earning a 10-2 win in five innings in game two in Huntingdon, Pa.
In game one, the Mounties were held scoreless despite collecting four hits in a tightly contested pitcher's duel. Juniata scored both of its runs in the opening inning, taking advantage of an early Mount Aloysius error before adding an RBI single from Eva Johnson to build a 2-0 lead.
After the opening frame, Isabella Shupp settled in nicely in the circle for the Mounties. The freshman tossed a complete game, allowing just one earned run across six innings while striking out one.
Mount Aloysius threatened offensively on several occasions but could not break through against Juniata pitchers Maryn Swank and Cheyenne Silvis. Ava Doyle, Sarah Henninger, Maggie Cypher and Katelyn Ledwich each recorded hits for the Mounties, while Greysyn Gable drew a walk and Ledwich added a sacrifice bunt.
In game two, Juniata used a seven-run second inning to take control early on its way to the doubleheader sweep.
Alysha Cutri made her first appearance in the circle for Mount Aloysius this season, drawing the start in the regular season finale. Juniata strung together six hits in the decisive second inning, highlighted by RBI knocks from Ashley Robuck, Grace Hensch, Dani Berlin and Claire Thomas.
Juniata added another run in the third inning before the Mounties answered in the fourth. Gable delivered an RBI double to left center field to score Summer Campbell and Morgan Hassen followed later in the inning with an RBI single up the middle to plate pinch runner Sabrina Tuscan and cut the deficit to 8-2.
Hassen paced the Mounties offensively with a pair of hits, while Gable drove in a run and Patricia Wagner added a double. Wagner also worked two innings in the circle and struck out one.
With the regular season complete, the Mounties now await the result of Friday's matchup between Pitt-Bradford and Alfred State to determine their seeding for the upcoming AMCC Tournament, which begins Wednesday, May 6.
