DuBois, PA - The Mount Aloysius softball season came to a close Friday at Heindl Field as the Mounties battled through two tough games in the AMCC Tournament, falling 5-4 to Penn State Behrend before dropping a 6-1 decision to Penn State Altoona.
Against top-seeded Penn State Behrend in the afternoon matchup, the Mounties erased an early deficit and held a late lead before the Lions walked off with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Game One: After four scoreless innings to open the contest, Behrend broke through in the fourth on an RBI single from Julia Jones. Mount Aloysius answered immediately in the fifth, taking a 2-1 lead behind consecutive RBI hits from Taylor Doyle and Isabela Marquez. Doyle drove home Morgan Hassen with a single that was misplayed in the outfield before Marquez followed with a run-scoring single to center.
The Mounties extended the advantage in the sixth when Greysyn Gable delivered an RBI single to plate Sarah Henninger and make it 3-1. Behrend responded with a three-run bottom half, using back-to-back RBI doubles from Chloe Nale and Hannah Smith before Meghan Swain laid down a bunt single that brought home the go-ahead run.
Mount Aloysius fought back once more in the seventh. Hanna Stedman reached and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Henninger to even the game at 4-4, but the Lions answered in the bottom of the inning with a walk-off RBI single from Smith to advance.
The Mounties out-hit Behrend 10-6 in the contest. Taylor Doyle finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Marquez added two hits and an RBI. Alysha Cutri also collected two hits, and Gable and Henninger each drove in a run. Jessica Koptcho turned in a strong outing in the circle, allowing four runs while striking out six over 5.1 innings.
Game Two: In the season-ending game against Penn State Altoona, the Lions struck early with a two-run first inning and never relinquished control. Madison Kennedy drove in both runs with a single up the middle after an outfield error allowed the inning to continue.
Mount Aloysius cut the deficit to 2-1 in the fifth when Ava Doyle ripped an RBI triple to right field to score Stedman, but Altoona answered immediately with a three-run bottom half. Kennedy again delivered the big hit with a two-run double before another Mountie error allowed an additional run to score.
Altoona added one more in the sixth to close out the 6-1 victory.
Doyle accounted for the Mounties' lone RBI with her triple, while Marquez recorded two of the team's four hits. Taylor Doyle also added a hit and a walk in the loss.
The pair of losses closes the book on Mount Aloysius' 2026 campaign after the Mounties made a run in the AMCC Tournament and earned victories earlier in the week over Alfred State and Penn State Altoona.
