WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Women's soccer was defeated by Wilkes University 5-0 Wednesday night at Bruggeworth Field, on what was probably coldest night of the fall so far.
Wilkes opened the scoring just 1:20 into the contest, taking an early 1-0 advantage. The Colonels added another goal in the 36th minute to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Wilkes extended its advantage early in the second half, scoring in the 52nd minute before adding two more goals in the 64th and 73rd minutes to close out the 5-0 victory.
The Mounties finished the contest with four shots, with Abigail Solano (Spencerport, N.Y., Spencerport) leading the way with three attempts and one shot on goal. Brooke Thomas (Altoona, Pa., Altoona) added one shot, which was on target. Mount Aloysius also earned one corner kick.
Wilkes finished with 21 shots, including 18 on goal, while the Mounties goalkeeper McKenna Meadows (Lewisburg, PA, Lewisburg) recorded 13 saves in the contest.
The Mounties will return home Saturday afternoon for Homecoming at Kelly Field. As part of the annual Mount Aloysius Homecoming, the Mounties will welcome the Marywood University Pacers to campus for a 4 p.m. kickoff. Marywood enters the contest with a 6-1-1 record. This will be the first time the Mounties and Pacers play each other.
