PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Mount Aloysius cross country teams turned in some of their strongest performances of the season Friday afternoon at the La Roche Invitational, highlighted by a pair of top-10 finishes on the men's side.
The Mount Aloysius men were led by freshman Ryland Corl (Williamsburg, Pa., Williamsburg), who finished seventh overall with a time of 21:06 and a 6:48 mile pace. Senior Troy Tinch (Baltimore, Md., Calvert Hall) followed closely behind, placing ninth overall in 22:06 with a 7:08 pace. The pair gave the Mounties two runners inside the top 10 in the field.
The women's team posted a fourth-place overall finish with 71 points, finishing behind Carlow (45), La Roche (46) and Pitt-Greensburg (49). Jasmine Vanmale (Beaverdale, Pa., Forest Hills) led the Mounties with an 11th place-finish in 30:06, followed by Anna Resig (Altoona, Pa., Altoona Area) in 12th at 30:52. Tiffany Plows (Windber, Pa., PA Cyber) added a 15th-place finish in 31:53, while Shannon Shaffer (South Fork, Pa., Forest Hills) finished 21th in 34:00 and Abigail Lenhard (Duncansville, Pa., Liberty University Online) rounded out the Mounties' scoring in 24th at 34:38.
As a team, the women's cross country posted a total time of 2:41:29, with a 32:18 average time and a 4:33 spread between their five scoring runners.
The Mounties will return to action Saturday, Oct. 3, when they host the Mountie Invitational on campus. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and will also serve as Senior Day for Mount Aloysius cross country.
