WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Mount Aloysius men's golf team was back on the course this week, with the Mounties sending their A team to compete at the Northeast Elite while the B team traveled to Grove City for its own tournament action.
At the Northeast Elite, the Mounties finished 14th as a team, carding a two-round score of 613 after opening with a 305 before shooting 308 in the second round.
William Willis (Chesterfield, Va., Benedictine) provided one of the highlights of the tournament for Mount Aloysius, sitting tied for first place after the opening round. Willis fired a 1-under 70 on day one, putting himself in contention at the top of the individual leaderboard. He finished the tournament with a two-round total of 156 after shooting an 86 in the second round.
Josh Nicholl (Ballymena, Northern Ireland, Cullybackey College) led the Mounties individually, finishing tied for 30th with a 152. Nicholl opened with an even-par 72 before carding an 80 in the second round.
Jacob Koons (Kingston, Pa., Holy Redeemer) finished tied for 51st at 155, shooting rounds of 79 and 76, while Michael Sevier (King George, Va., King George) finished tied for 71st with a 159 after rounds of 84 and 75.
Patrick McDonald (Hummelstown, Pa., Lower Dauphin) rounded out the Mounties' five-man A team, finishing 83rd with a 162 after shooting an 85 in the opening round and a 77 in the second.
Meanwhile, Mount Aloysius' B team competed at Grove City, finishing 14th as a team.
Luke Sands (Stockholm, Sweden, Upplands-bro Gymnasium) paced the B team, finishing 16th overall with a score of 78. Louie Van De Velde (Punta De Mita, Mexico, Altitude Academies) followed with an 81, while Ben Staines (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Centennial Collegiate) carded an 83. Owen Thompson (Gibsonia, PA, Pine-Richland High School) finished with an 84, followed by Filip Dahl (Jessheim, Norway, Hvam Videregaande Skole) with an 87 and Eugenio Sousa (Benito Juarez, Mexico, The Learning Club) with an 88.
With another tournament weekend in the books, the Mounties will return to action next Monday and Tuesday at the Saint Francis Invitational. The tournament will be held at Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, with tee times still to be announced.
