DOVER, Ohio - The Mount Aloysius College men's golf team opened its 2026 fall season in impressive fashion Sunday, as the Mounties' A team claimed first place at the Wooster Gatorade Collegiate at Zoar Village Golf Club.

Making their first appearance of the fall after a historic 2025-26 campaign that saw the Mounties capture their first-ever Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship and make a trip to the NCAA Division III Championships in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, Mount Aloysius picked up right where it left off.

A Team

The Mounties posted a two-round team score of 580 (-4), finishing four strokes ahead of host Wooster, which finished at 584 (+0). Capital placed third at 588 (+12), while Marietta and Saint Vincent rounded out the top five.

Mount Aloysius held a two-stroke lead after Saturday's opening round, firing a 284 (-4), before matching Wooster with a 296 in Sunday's final round to secure the tournament victory.

Leading the way individually was a pair of Mounties, as 2025 AMCC Golfer of the Year Josh Nicholl (Ballymena, Northern Ireland, Cullybackey College) and 2025 AMCC Newcomer of the Year William Willis (Chesterfield, Va., Benedictine) both finished tied for second overall at 142 (-2). Nicholl carded back-to-back rounds of 71, while Willis matched that performance with consecutive 71s.

Jacob Koons (Kingston, Pa., Holy Redeemer) also turned in a strong performance, finishing tied for 19th at 148 (+4) after rounds of 71 and 77. Ethan Batstone (Swindon, England, South Gloucestershire and Stroud) finished tied for 35th at 153 (+9), posting a 71 in the opening round before a final-round 82. Viktor Cussil (Sigtuna, Sweden, Arlandagymnasiet) rounded out the A-team lineup in 42nd place at 154 (+10), shooting 77 in both rounds.

B Team

The Mounties also had their B team competing at the event, with the squad finishing seventh overall with a 594 (+18). They improved by four strokes in the second round, following a 299 on Saturday with a 295 on Sunday.

Patrick McDonald (Hummelstown, Pa., Lower Dauphin) led the B team and turned in one of the tournament's top individual performances, tying for fifth overall at 143 (-1). McDonald opened with a 72 before firing a 71 in the final round.

Michael Sevier (King George, Va., King George) finished tied for 15th at 147 (+3), carding rounds of 70 and 77. Ben Staines (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Centennial Collegiate) followed in a tie for 30th at 151 (+7) after rounds of 78 and 73, while Zach Oakes (Roaring Spring, Pa., Central) finished tied for 35th at 153 (+9) with rounds of 79 and 74. Oliver Pepulis (Ludvika, Sweden, VBU El-och Energiprogrammet) rounded out the Mountie B team, finishing tied for 55th at 159 (+15) after shooting 82 and 77.

C Team

The Mounties' C team was in action Friday, competing at the Pitt-Bradford Kickoff Classic at Pennhills Club in Bradford.

Mount Aloysius finished fourth as a team with a score of 309 (+25), finishing just four strokes behind tournament champion Pitt-Bradford.

Louie Van De Velde (Punta De Mita, Mexico, Altitude Academies) paced the Mounties, tying for fifth individually with a 74 (+3). Jayvien Brumbaugh (Mount Union, Pa., Mount Union) and Luke Sands (Stockholm, Sweden, Upplands-bro Gymnasium) both finished tied for 30th with matching rounds of 82 (+11), while Eugenio Sousa (Benito Juarez, Mexico, The Learning Club) rounded out the Mounties' C team lineup by tying for 38th with an 85 (+14).

Owen Thompson (Gibsonia, PA, Pine-Richland High School), competing as an individual, also posted a solid round, tying for 16th overall with a 79 (+8).

The Mounties' opening weekend provided plenty of momentum, with the A team claiming a tournament championship while the B and C teams each turned in strong performances of their own. After a historic 2025-26 season, Mount Aloysius wasted little time showing that the program remains among the teams to watch this fall.

With all three squads producing top-seven finishes and the A team beginning the season with a tournament championship, the Mounties have already established themselves as a team to watch as they look to build on last season's conference championship and NCAA Championship appearance.

Mount Aloysius will return to action next Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 12-13, at the Toftrees Invitational hosted by AMCC foe Penn State Altoona. Toftrees Golf Resort is where the Mounties won their first ever AMCC title last season. Things will get started at 7:30 a.m. in State College, Pa.
