Pat Martinelli

Pat Martinelli enters his first season as head coach of the Mount Aloysius College men's basketball program during the 2026-27 campaign after being named the Mounties' head coach on April 16, 2026.

Martinelli arrives at Mount Aloysius with an extensive background in player development, recruiting, and program building, having spent time at several successful NCAA Division III institutions. He was hired following two seasons as a full-time assistant coach at Carnegie Mellon University, where he helped lead the Tartans to an at-large berth in the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship, the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2009.

During his time at Carnegie Mellon, Martinelli played a key role in recruiting and developing some of the University Athletic Association's top talent. He helped recruit graduate standout Nikola Dimitrijevic (Dartmouth), who earned First Team All-UAA honors in 2026 along with First Team All-Region recognition from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and D3hoops.com. Martinelli also helped develop multiple all-conference performers, including First Team All-UAA selections Justin Allen (2024, 2025) and Jack Stone (2024), as well as Honorable Mention All-UAA honoree RJ Holmes (2025). His responsibilities included recruiting, practice planning, opponent scouting, player development, and game preparation.

Before joining Carnegie Mellon, Martinelli spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Chatham University. During his tenure, the Cougars posted a 60-32 overall record and a 43-20 mark in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play. He helped guide Chatham to the 2023 PAC Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance while contributing to a school-record 21-win season in 2021-22.

Martinelli began his collegiate coaching career at Allegheny College, serving two seasons as an assistant coach after spending four years as a student assistant. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, he worked in Allegheny's athletic communications office, assisting with game day operations, statistics, and historical archiving.

A native of South Fayette, Pennsylvania, Martinelli earned his bachelor's degree in managerial economics with a minor in German from Allegheny College in 2017.
